Lockheed Martin soars with $248.8 million fighter jet contract

Fort Worth-based Lockheed Martin won an new 248.8 million contract to produce additional F-35 fighter jets for the Department of Defense.

The F-35 is a next generation strike fighter that incorporates stealth technology.  The contract includes the production of both the conventional model for the Air Force, and the carrier variant for the Navy.

The contract is expected to be completed in February 2014.
