Economic development at *Chennault Airport * is taking off
Chennault International Airport continues to grow in an era when most areas are experiencing an aviation lag or decrease, according to the Louisiana Economic Development.
The airport, located in the southwest corner of Louisiana in Lake Charles, has a workforce of more than 1,500 and account for a $62 million annual payroll, according to Louisiana Economic Development state website.
Ongoing construction of a new hangar is expected to add another 500 jobs along with additional vendor and contractor jobs. The hangar is set to be complete in 2014. Other economic developments at the airport include the completion of a $2.7 million aviation center for building fabrication to make repairs and component overhauls for Northrop Grumman’s military aircraft, the website states.
The airport has 500 acres available for lease and offers immediate access to Interstate 10, railroads, and the Port of Lake Charles.
