San Francisco International Airport sets records for passenger arrivals, departures
SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco International Airport served 50 million passengers in 2015, a record for the airport. And those numbers are expected to increase in the coming years.
In addition, a new report from the International Trade Administration showed that SFO had the highest rate of international visitors of any American airport in 2015.
SFO had a 9 percent increase in international passengers, putting it above other major gateway airports like Los Angeles’ LAX and New York’s John F. Kennedy International airport.
Some of the notable information included where visitors were coming from, and how much they spent in San Francisco.
— Chinese visitors to San Francisco spent an $813 million in 2015.
— Visitors from the United Kingdom shell out $465 million.
— Indian visitors spent $404 million.
— Visitors from Germany, Scandinavia, South Korea and Japan also make up large portions of San Francisco’s international visitors.
